A golden bridge in the midst of lush greenery - Especially in the evening sun, Altenbeken's railway viaduct is an unforgettable motif that fascinates photographers and railway enthusiasts alike. The starting point of the 30 km long tour of the Viadukt trail is an attraction: a freight train steam locomotive class 044 from 1941, which stands in the middle of Altenbeken. The tour sets the real landmark Altenbekens in scene: the inaugurated in 1853, up to 35 meters high and 482 meters long viaduct with its 24 round arches is considered the largest stone railway bridge in Europe and is always on the road experience from different perspectives, always embedded in the gently hilly wooded landscape around Altenbeken. The viaduct, steam locomotive, Rehberg tunnel or the railway station with Gleisdreieck are idyllically inserted into one of the most beautiful low mountain ranges in Germany and can be admired alternately on the medium-weight hiking trail.By the way: the viaduct trail is equally signposted in both directions. How you walk around can be decided on a whim, the hike guarantees a unique experience on each section. A total of 984 meters in altitude to overcome, for wheelchair users and parents with strollers therefore not recommended. Moreover, there is a specially created punch card, which can be "canceled" at five stations along the way. In case of complete immigration, an attractive certificate with hiking pin will beckons.
