Note: Orientation light: The white shining signal headlight of the Nordenham Union Pier is located on the round yellow-painted head of a steel pylon. The Union Pier's origins can be found in 1857, when the Bremen merchant and shipowner H. H. Meier (1809-1889) founded Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL). When this company was founded, the NDL's agent Wilhelm Müller was commissioned to build the Union Pier (popularly also known as the Ochsenpier). From here, cargo ships were loaded with oxen for England. With the rinderpest in 1874, the trade in oxen from the surrounding area came to an end. Today the restored pier serves as a passenger pier for a passenger shipping line from Bremen.

Immerse yourself in the world of our solar system on the Planet Trail.

The Planet Trail is a scale model of our solar system and vividly illustrates the unimaginable dimensions of the cosmos: On a scale of one to a billion, the celestial bodies gather around the sun, which is located as a three-dimensional model on the Union Pier in the center of Nordenham. Aluminum panels with half-relief explain informative, exciting and interesting facts about the planets from Mercury to Pluto. The Planet Trail has a total length of just under 6 km, an alternative route shortens the route by 4 km.

The Union Pier in Nordenham was built in 1864 by Union Dampfschifffahrt GmbH. From here, cargo ships were loaded with cattle for England. Today, the ferries of the "Hal över" shipping company and other traditional ships dock at the newly built Union Pier in the summer season. The shipping company operates a ferry service from Bremen to Bremerhaven.

On the yellow-painted head of the northern steel pylon there is a yellow glowing bonfire. Source:
