The Lune is a right tributary of the Lower Weser, a small meadow river that measures about 43 kilometers from its source to where it flows into the Lower Weser. At the Bremervörder/Cuxhaven district border, the Volkmarster Lune is added to the headwaters of the Lune. Between Kirchwistedt and Stemmermühlen, the Altwistedter Lune also flows into the Lune, which then flows via Beverstedt, Lunestedt, Nesse near Loxstedt and Lanhausen to the Lunesiel south of the fishing port of Bremerhaven. The river was a main traffic artery until the beginning of the 17th century and was navigable as far as Deelbrügge.
