Osterstein Castle, first mentioned in 1331, was rebuilt after a town fire in 1403 and converted into a Renaissance castle between 1587 and 1590 before serving as a prison from 1775 to 1962. After extensive renovation from 2006 to 2008, it now shines in all its glory again. Today, a senior care home resides in the castle. And in the castle tavern you can pamper yourself and take a break: schloss-schenke-zwickau.de.

The former lowland castle, in its function as a city fortress, was located in the northeastern part of Zwickau's old town, just a few dozen meters from the Zwickauer Mulde River. A pronounced moat and high walls, which were still standing until the 19th century, suggest that the castle was originally built as a moated castle.
