Also located on the Buttermarkt is the Burghaus (Castle House), considered the oldest house in Adenau. It is said to have been first documented in 1396 and was built by the lords (knights) of Adenau. Interestingly, traces of arrow slits and a machicolation can be found here. The house is privately owned.

The Buttermarkt Adenau on the southern outskirts of Adenau was named after its former purpose as the "Buttermarkt". There you can see a group of figures with a butter market woman in the middle, created by the sculptor Georg Gehring. The castle, built in the 14th century, stands on the Buttermarkt, with outer walls up to a meter thick. This oldest house in the city used to house a cultural café. Next to it is a half-timbered house built in 1702, which was moved from the main street to its current location in 1989.
