The refuge that was newly erected this year (by the OG BUND Lamspringe) is located in the immediate vicinity of the historic trumpeter bush:In the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, the Lamspringer had to endure many horrors. Frequent billeting resulted in heavy loads. After the battle of Lutter am Barenberge in 1626, scattered groups of mercenaries occupied the place, plundered and burned the houses. Fearing further attacks, the locals hid their little belongings in the forest. The courageous Lamspringer Henning Eggers holed up with a crowd of young men near Rolfshagen. Guards were set up to intercept the greedy mercenaries on site. Scattered troops roamed the forest and clashed. In an ambush, Henning Eggers blew his trumpet to attack. Danes and imperialists said the symbol was meant for them. They fired their muskets and dashed away in frantic flight. So Lamspringe was spared another attack by Henning Egger's ruse. Even today, the area in the monastery forest where the marauders were driven to flight by a trumpet blow is called the “trumpeter bush”.
