The Basilica of Our Lady of Salvation is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in Popenguine, which is the destination of thousands of foot-pilgrims from the entire archbishopric of Dakar on Whit Monday. The faithful here worship the face of a black Madonna in a grotto. For the Pope's visit in 1992, a stadium with many seats was specially grown at the church, so that people could be accommodated, who had traveled from all over Sénégal.
