In the second half of the 19th century, Prince Otto Friedrich Schönburg-Waldenburg had a settlement full of monuments built in the Alpine style on the site of a burnt-out sawmill. Thanks to him, a hunting lodge, a restaurant and several garden houses and log cabins were built here. Many buildings have survived to this day.

After Otto Friedrich von Schönburg-Waldenburg, owner of the lordships of Waldenburg and Lichtenstein near Chemnitz, acquired parts of the Kaiserwald on July 15, 1865, he had the area reforested and developed through new paths. From 1873 Otto Friedrich had the prestigious Glatzen hunting lodge built in the Alpine style. After 1878 a small settlement of the same construction was built around the hunting lodge.
