Sasson della Madonna

The Sasson della Madonna (or Sasson de Val de Piera) is an isolated boulder located in the center of the glacial valley that dominates the Val de Piera, at an altitude of 1630 m. Here, back in 1967, the alpine troops of the ANA Group of Tambre placed a small statue of the Madonna delle Penne Nere. Every year, at the end of July, during the anniversary of its placement and blessing, a Holy Mass is held in memory of all the disappeared Alpine troops.

It is a characteristic point of the Pian delle Lastre - Rifugio Semenza itinerary, not far from the cableway that serves the refuge.
