The Geilweilerhof occurs after 600 AD as a Franconian settlement in the light of history and belonged in the 12th Century to the monastery Eußerthal. He was sold again and again. For more than 90 years, the farm has been developed into a vine growing center. The expansion of breeding research took place in the years 1970-1995, whose breeding heritage is the most successful fungus-resistant resistant vine variety "Regent". Now the Geilweilerhof belongs to the Research Institute of Crops, Julius-Kühn-Stiftung, Quedlinburg.

One of the many specialist institutes of the JKI Federal Research Institute for Cultivated Plants is set up in the Geilweilerhof. This is about all aspects of grape breeding - genetics, phenotyping, resistance and much more.

A wide variety of grape varieties are grown here, including some grape varieties that I have never heard of. Very interesting to find out what the different grape varieties are all about.

At the Geilweilerhof you walk along a vineyard where a wide variety of grape varieties grow and each row is labeled. This invites you to linger and compare.
