The oldest part of Vor Frue Stadrkirche are the side walls from the tower to the transepts. This part of the church dates from the Romanesque period and is made of brick. In the late Gothic period, the original Romanesque choir was torn down and replaced by the current choir. On the same occasion the transepts were added to the north and south. The vault of the church also comes from this renovation. The church vestibule on the south side and the tower on the west were added later. In 1768 the tower got its double lantern top.
