About Oberhutzel

I've only ridden on paved surfaces the last few days, so today I did a slightly longer route towards Klein Brunsrode. The tour is a nice gravel loop with plenty of asphalt on side roads and firm gravel sections through the forest. The section between Groß Brunsrode and Klein Brunsrode follows well-maintained

The Braunschweig Winter Challenge 2026, like the 2021 event, leads through the Mascherode and Lechlum forests, but with a new route. The course is 26 kilometers long with approximately 180 meters of elevation gain and nearly 19 kilometers of singletrack. The route is currently clear of all fallen trees

I took advantage of the sunny day and extended my ride a bit after my island vacation. The route has a lot of asphalt, and even the gravel sections through the forest were all dry today. With the southwest wind, I also had a bit of a tailwind in the open areas. My heart rate was still a little high at

After three weeks in temperatures between 22 and 31°C, it took a while to get back on my bike at home. I remembered so many things that had been neglected and seemed more important than riding. Today, I finally managed to do a short, trail-heavy ride around Waggum. It was quite an adjustment going from

Yesterday, our trip to Playa Blanca unfortunately fell through. I had planned to rent a road bike there and explore the south of the island. The route from Costa Teguise is too long, and the only way to get there is via Yaiza, as the descent via Femés is closed to bicycles.
Today, we went along the Guinate

Today I went back to the old capital of Lanzarote, and unfortunately, this will probably be my last ride on the island this year, as rain is forecast for tomorrow and possibly Friday as well. I've never experienced rain on Lanzarote before and I'm curious to see what happens here and whether the vegetation

Today I did a short ride, but with a few hills. Unfortunately, I didn't start until midday, and in 25°C heat with no shade, the sweat was pouring down my face. This year, they've also resurfaced the main road through El Mojon, and now there are only about 200 meters of rougher asphalt left from the turnoff

Today, as a warm-up, I started with a flat stage along the coast to Puerto del Carmen. At the harbor, I enjoyed an ice-cold Alster (a shandy) and then rode back against a strong headwind. My legs still had some strength, but my heart rate was a bit high on the way back. My wife rode ahead nicely on her

My cold is almost gone, so today I did a short test run with a gentle climb to "Las Calderas" to see how my lungs were holding up. It went quite well, even though we were nearly blown away at the top. On Monday, I'll switch to the bike and start with a flat stage. The climb was on a narrow, well-trodden path.

Today I went for a short ride around Waggum, carrying heavy tools and doing some trail maintenance. The trails are nice and dry at the moment, and even here they're rideable without mud. At the end of the ride, I stopped by the bakery and bought some rolls.
