The Witches' Tower in Fulda is located in the romantic Kanalstrasse and is the best preserved tower of the medieval city fortifications.
Built in the 12th century, the tower is 14 metres high and was formerly part of the inner city wall and the north gate that separated the town from the monastery district. The tower was originally used as a watchtower, and in the later Middle Ages, as the name suggests, as a women's prison.
