The current building of the US Rectorate was designed by construction advisor Rönnebeck in 1885. The building was constructed in 1886-1888. The building was built due to the overcrowding of the junior high school at today's ul. Wielkopolska 14. The building was the first structure to be built on a street that had not been marked out much earlier.
Above the main entrance to the new building "König Wilhelm Gymnasium", a shell-shaped recess was created, in which there was a bust of King Wilhelm. Only the shell has survived to this day. There are two Latin maxims on the building's facade: "we learn not for school, but for life" and "a healthy mind in a healthy body."
