The clay pit pond in Alpenrod was created from the former "Kaolin pit Böhmsfund". Kaolin, a special type of clay that is used to make porcelain, was mined there.Today the pit is full of water and has the unique water color turquoise due to the layer of clay on the bottom. The groundwater that collects from the neighboring clay open-cast mine is also pumped into the pond. One fisherman reported on analyzes that were carried out. No concerns whatsoever were found, neither for the fish in the lake nor for the people who eat them.
