The Quirinus Minster is one of the most important late Romanesque churches on the Lower Rhine and also a landmark of the city of Neuss. The gallery basilica was built in the 13th century. Its landmark was initially the west tower, which was around 100 meters high and which, like the rest of the building, was badly damaged in a fire in 1741 after a lightning strike. The Gothic pointed helmets on the west and east towers were not rebuilt, but the east tower was given a baroque dome with a statue of Neuss' patron saint, St. Quirinus
