As a wine market in the 15th and 16th centuries, Theresienstraße was arguably the busiest of all Ingolstadt's squares, and it has always been seen as a long square centered on the Hotel Adler and an urban space. Then, as during the Baroque period, it was the most distinguished street in Ingolstadt, home to wealthy brewers, butchers, and bakers – as well as university professors.
