The current building was built around 1828 by pharmacist Heinrich Ludwig on the site of a house destroyed in the city fire of 1827. Pharmacist Dicke bought the house in 1904
and passed it on to his son in 1949. The Dicke family still owns the house today, and it has been in Schwelm for over 300 years. On March 3, 1945, the house suffered severe damage from a bomb. It was rebuilt to its former glory, except for the ornately decorated gable.
