The dam of the Suviana dam was built between 1928 and 1932 to supply the then newly built Bologna-Florence railway line with the power of hydropower generated. In the meantime, the idyllic lake between the mountains is also open to tourists - swimming, camping, water sports.

Suviana lake is an artificial lake located in the Bolognese Apennines, created by a 91.5 meters high dam in the 1930s to supply hydroelectric power. The lake, included in the territory of the regional park together with the nearby Brasimone lake, is also used for seaside activities and for water sports; it is in fact equipped with various refreshment points and with bathing facilities that make it a holiday resort in the summer season.
