Frauenaurach is a district of the city of Erlangen and covers an area of 5.49 km². It is located seven kilometers southwest of the city center of Erlangen in the valley of the Middle Aurach.The name of the district goes back to the Aurach and a nunnery, donated by Herdegen von Gründlach in 1267 and occupied by the Dominican order via Engelthal Abbey in 1271. In the evangelical community of Frauenaurach there is a monastery church, the construction of which began in the High Middle Ages. It is dedicated to the evangelist Matthew. Originally it was in the area of a nunnery that was established around 1267 (Frauenaurach Monastery).[3]
The Hotel Schwarzer Adler is a 300-year-old listed half-timbered house.[4]
