Wendelinus oak / LangenbergkreuzA special tree, the sessile oak or "Wendelinus oak" is approx. 276 years old. The cross ("Hungarian" or "Langenberg Cross") is made of gray sandstone and bears the inscription INRI. It was built by a family from Saarhölzbach who emigrated to Hungary. It also bears the name "Ongersch Kreuz" (= Hungarian cross).

“Each of these crosses can tell its own story and what prompted people to erect “their” cross at this point. (...) These wayside crosses were erected as visible signs and attract the attention of many people. The cross is a symbol of life. It stands as a sign of our Christian hope and wants to direct our gaze to Jesus Christ, who has overcome death (...). The cross is part of our life as it was in the life of Jesus.
So I wish that many people … visit the crosses, whether as places of stillness and breathing space before God, whether as places for community gatherings, prayer and praise to God.”

The panel with the four letters "INRI" (also called the title of the cross), which is often seen on cross representations and attached to the longitudinal beam of the cross, is the Latin abbreviation for the words "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum". Such a plaque was then common in the Roman Empire and gave the reason for the conviction or execution.
This inscription is documented in the Bible, among other things, in the report of the evangelist John about Jesus' crucifixion. In chapter 19, verse 19 it says, "Pilate also had a tablet made and fixed on top of the cross, with the inscription: Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." (Unit translation).
