Hamm can proudly look back on its 600-year history. When it was incorporated into the city of Düsseldorf in 1394, the place was first mentioned in a document. A Rhine ferry has also operated between Hamm and Neuss since the Middle Ages, and its operation was finally discontinued in 1951. Today the name "Fährstraße" and the old flood gate still reminds of it.
