Today, the branches of a large old oak tree protectively over the grave of Böll and his wife Annemarie. The well-known author Heinrich Böll used to live here. Heinrich Böll is no longer alive. The Heinrich Böll Weg, which runs through Merten, is recommended for hikers.

The writer Heinrich Böll (1917 to 1985, 1972 Nobel Prize for Literature) lived with his family in the Merten district of Bornheim for a few years after the Second World War. He and his wife found their final resting place in the old cemetery.
