Nizze Park (Ribnitz-Damgarten)

Ribnitz-Damgarten's only city park is the Nizze-Park and can with a stately
Waiting for trees. And the proximity to the water and the connection to the Boddenwanderweg make the green area between Ribnitz and Damgarten a small local recreation area. The park owes its name to Mayor Reinhold Nizze. On his advice, the park was created in 1870.

A beautiful park with old trees.

This small park lies between the reed belt of the Bodden and the Damgartener Chaussee. It is dedicated to the former mayor Reinhold Nizze and is a small gem.

Reinhold Nizze was born in Ribnitz as the son of the doctor Dr. Friedrich Ludwig Nizze. Reinhold Nizze studied law and worked as a lawyer in Rostock in 1853.

When his father died, who was the mayor of Ribnitz, he followed his call to his hometown to take over the father's office.

From 1870 until his death on December 9, 1902, he held the office of mayor. During his tenure, he supported the construction of the "higher citizen school" and the establishment of new traffic routes and connections (railway connection Stralsund - Rostock 1888/89).

His term of office includes also the establishment of the new cemetery on Schleusenberg and the opening of a public library, but also the extensive sale of land and land, which was very doubted during his lifetime, in order to raise money for his activities.

He was particularly interested in the development of handicrafts and trades. He was therefore one of the co-founders of the trade association in Ribnitz. In recognition of his services, a street in Ribnitz was named after him as early as 1921.
