Southeast of Ribnitz-Damgarten lies the nature reserve "Untere Recknitztal". The lower reaches of the Recknitz with the surrounding river valley moor and the steep valley slopes formed around 12,000 years ago as Urstromtal on the edge of a glacier. The extensive, broad, moored valley, which forms the border between Mecklenburg and Vorpommern with its sequels along the Trebel and Peene, is a unique habitat in the Baltic Sea region, where you can still experience pure nature.
