You are currently walking through the valley (Dutch: Vallei) of the Ziep or Zijp brook (Dutch: Beek). As you might have noticed, it's pretty muddy and boggy. This is due to the seepage water that presses out of the ground due to the geological conditions here in the valley. Luckily! Otherwise you wouldn't be able to enjoy this heathland with its typical fauna and flora. It is especially beautiful from mid-August to mid-September - when the heather is in full bloom.
