Valentine's Water Sprite Fountain (Fontána vodníka Valentína), Trenčín

The Valentine statue dates back to 1998 and has an intriguing reputation. She says that the waterman wandered here from Moravia and fell in love with the gingerbread woman Anička, who returned his love. However, their shared happiness was hindered by the townspeople who did not like the waterman. One day, however, the gingerbread house of Anička caught fire. Waterman did not hesitate, he rushed to Váh and opened new springs from underground, which extinguished the fire. Anička survived the accident, but Vodník did not.
And so the inhabitants of the city at the time had wells built in the places where the water was springing up. In memory of the heroic Waterman, a statue with his likeness was later erected here. During the summer, wooden benches are built in its vicinity, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view directly of the Trenčín Castle.
