Parish Church of St. Jodok, Schruns
The parish church of Schruns was elevated to the status of a cathedral church. Various criteria must be met in order to be considered for the elevation to the Munster Church. The spiritual importance of a church to a region is one of them. "The Schruns parish church is of great importance for the religious life of the region. This fact is taken into account by the elevation to the cathedral church," says Bishop Benno Elbs. The hope that the Schruns parish church will become another important place of spiritual and pastoral life in Vorarlberg is linked to the elevation to the Münsterkirche.
The church was built in 1865. It contains Neo-Romanesque altars, paintings in the Nazarene style and numerous paintings (on both sides of the high altar, on the choir ceiling) by Franz and Jakob Bertle from the Bertle family of painters from Schruns. Hans Bertle (son of Jakob Bertle) created five ceiling paintings in the nave and the medallions above the windows. The carpenter Anton Bertle and the sculptor Ignaz Bertle are responsible for the execution of the pulpit.
