The castle was built in 1420 by the lords of Validlingen on the site of an abandoned castle. The facility was destroyed in 1543, but rebuilt a year later under Württemberg ownership. In 1550 Wilhelm von Janowitz was enfeoffed with the castle. His descendants sold it to the Lords of Münchingen in 1665. In 1693 the castle was destroyed again, but rebuilt. In 1891 it came into the possession of the Barons Hiller von Gaertringen. Today the park belonging to the castle is open to the public, the castle is privately owned.
