Source by Peter: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadtkirche_Unserer_Lieben_Frauen_(Heldburg)The Reformation found its way into the arable town of Heldburg, first mentioned in a document in 837, as early as 1530. The clergyman Friedrich Schwalb had studied in Wittenberg around 1515 and was appointed Protestant pastor at the end of 1528. The schoolmaster Johannes Schrimpf was also enrolled at the University of Wittenberg in the summer of 1521. Through this connection, the Reformation Heldburg was soon able to gain a foothold. Accordingly, life should continue to develop in church order, school facilities and charitable care. The most important representative of Lutheran teaching at the time, Johann Gerhard (1582–1637) was superintendent in Heldburg from 1606 to 1614, general superintendent in Coburg from 1614/15 and finally in 1616 became professor of theology in Jena. Both as a teacher and as the author of the "Casimirian Church Ordinance" he had a great influence on the ecclesiastical life of his time. He is a witness that Protestant faith needs knowledge in order to be able to live and act responsibly. The town church of Heldburg "To our dear women" stands as an external symbol for the development of the Reformation thoughts. The new building in late Gothic style was started in the Catholic period in 1502, but was not completed as a Protestant church until 1536/37 with pulpit and baptismal font. The bronze bells still in existence date from 1483 (Luther's year of birth), 1626 and 1957.Source: lutherweg.de/lutherwege/bayern/?id=2b617e12-3b1b-40a7-9898-bafaa5510e07kirchenkreis-hildburghausen-eisfeld.de/gemeinden/91-gemeinden-e/112-heldburg

City Church of Our Lady.
The inscription in the choir shows that the town church was built in 1502. In 1522 the first Protestant church service was held in the shell. In 1537 the church was completed. The compact church tower was completed in 1614. In the basement with the sacristy, which is spanned by a ribbed vault, there are remains of a previous building. From 1819 to 1828 the community had extensive repairs and a redesign of the interior carried out. The wooden tower dome with slated tail dome with arcade top and arrow-like tip comes from the renovation in 1849, after a lightning strike in 1848 set the tower on fire. Since then the tower has been 45 meters high.
