Viktualienmarkt

There is a weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Fresh fruits and vegetables ...... cheese stalls and sausages. Everything regional and seasonal. A little further in the direction of New Town Hall are then fixed stalls such as food trucks for Currywurst, fries, sausages, etc. with matching drinks.

The Viktualienmarkt, on the edge of the old town, between the town hall, the city theater and the Herzog box, was built on the site of a monastery that was destroyed during a bombing raid during World War II. There are fast foods of all kinds in the fixed part of the store, Wednesday and Saturday are weekly markets.

The area of today's Viktualienmarkt is one of the most historic places in Ingolstadt's Old Town. "Legend" is the assignment of a Roman sacred stone to a temple of Mercury at this point. The assumption goes back to the time of Peter Apian. However, traces of a Roman settlement are missing so far in the old town. Only in the 8th century, the settlement is detectable.
