The Nyugati pályaudvar railway station (operationally Budapest-Nyugati, abbreviated to Nyugati pu. in German: Western Railway Station) is the second largest long-distance railway station in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, after Keleti pályaudvar (Eastern Railway Station) and before Déli pályaudvar (Southern Railway Station). The station is used by 18 million travelers every year. From an architectural point of view, it is considered the most interesting station building in the city.

On July 15, 1846, Hungary's first steam-powered train left from here to Vác, about 35 kilometers up the Danube. This was the beginning of the railway era in Hungary.

The current station building was built between 1874 and 1877 by the company "Eiffel & Cie" under the supervision of Gustave Eiffel, as a replacement for the original station building, which no longer met the requirements of the rapidly growing rail traffic. It was designed as a typical terminus station.

Great station building. Completely different overall impression than the equally imposing Ostbahnhof, majestic in its own way.
