Before the invention of antibiotics, tuberculosis could only be cured with rest, cleanliness and regularity. And lots of light and fresh air, reason to put patients outside as much as possible during the day. In the tuberculosis houses they were sheltered and still outside. By opening the garden doors wide and turning the house on its axis, the patient was always out of the wind and in the fresh air. Source and more information: ed.nl
