Abbey Village is beautifully situated for a number of great walks on the West Pennine Moors. With Roddlesworth Woodland and its reservoirs nearby and the moors themselves within walking distance, you're spoilt for choice.
The village is home to an Indian restaurant and a dog-friendly pub, the Hare and Hounds, which serves food seven days a week. Just to the west of the village is the Withnell Local Nature Reserve, an 11-acre (5 ha) site boasting a number of mammal, bird and amphibian species.
