"Orsoy was first mentioned in a document as Hersougen in 1139. Orsoy received city rights around 1285. From the beginning Orsoy belonged to the territory of the Counts of Kleve. 1609/1666 Orsoy with the Duchy of Kleve came under the rule of the Elector of Brandenburg. 1816-22 Rheinberg district , 1822-1856 district of Geldern, 1856-1975 district of Moers. Due to the municipal reorganization of 1975, Orsoy became a district of Rheinberg and, together with the town of Rheinberg, belonged to the district of Wesel."
