From 1620 the fortified aristocratic residence Haus Knipp was located here. The building, which fell into disrepair in the 19th century, was demolished in 1939 when the current dike was built. Today, the road leading here and the Haus Knipp railway bridge, built from 1910, are reminiscent of this aristocratic residence. Its predecessor Burg Knypp stood in the 13th century just where the bridge runs. There it was too close to the shifting Rhine and was repeatedly flooded, finally abandoned and rebuilt here in 1620. Haus Knipp stood the test of time for almost 300 years. May the beautiful railway bridge last just as long.
