The Gleisberger Church is one of the oldest churches in the Meißner Land. It dates from around the 13th century and is called a Romanesque choir tower church according to the type of construction. Until 1828 this church still had the small, well-fortified arched windows. The striking tower was probably erected in 1784 after the first tower renovation had already been carried out in 1626. Unfortunately, due to the mountainous surroundings, this tower height is not sufficient to make the church visible from afar.

The bells are still rung by hand.

The Romanesque choir tower church was probably built at the beginning of the 13th century; a monk from the Altzella monastery probably officiated there at first. The original church tower was demolished in 1626 and replaced by a new tower in its current form in 1784. A structural peculiarity is that the church tower is located directly above the chancel (in the east), and not - as usual - opposite it.

The winged altar, which was probably created in a Freiberg carving workshop around 1520, is a particularly valuable item. As a so-called changing altar, it takes on different shapes depending on the liturgical time. In 1925/26 a painting of the Last Judgment was created above the arch that separates the nave from the chancel. Between 2000 and 2005 the church was extensively restored inside and out.
