This cemetery was created in 1833 in response to a cholera epidemic in June of that year.
Several 'funeral villas' expire or may be victims of vandalism. Some are open and give a scary picture.
The special highlight of this place is the tomb of Pedro de Sousa Holstein, which is the largest of its kind. (and yet we did not find it right away).
Another prominent tomb is that of António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, who made his mark during his lifetime with the Quinta da Regaleiro in Sintra.
