The 25 de Abril Bridge, connecting Lisbon to Almada over the Tagus River, is a 2,277 meter long suspension bridge. Opened in 1966 as Salazar Bridge, it was renamed after the Carnation Revolution in 1974. Originally designed with four traffic lanes, today it has six, in addition to a railway line on the lower deck, added in 1999.
