visitluxembourg.com/de/ansicht/geotop/felsformation-alkummerThe "Alkummer" is an imposing canyon made of dolomite. The dolomite forms steep rock faces and is structured by a network of vertical cracks and fractures (fissures). Water seeps into the dolomite through the fissures and accumulates on the underlying marls, a rock rich in clay. For a long time, the rock faces of the Dolomites slide down into the valley on the softened marls and break into large stones. The narrow, accessible rock passage "Alkummer" was created because the blocks did not tip over completely here.
The Alkummer is located directly on Route 1 of the Mullerthal Trail. The Alkummer can also be hiked on the local circular route R8, which in places runs along the Mullerthal Trail. Parking spaces are located in Steinheim and below on the N10 on the Sauer.
