The trowels, which got their name due to their trowel-like shape, were made in the last Ice Age more than 15,000 years ago. Huge masses of ice formed the landscape of Ruppin Switzerland as we find it today. As the ice slowly retreated, some of the huge lumps of ice remained. When these thawed, the ladles were created. The trowels get their water from three spring bogs, which are located directly on the bank. The groundwater from the surrounding forest areas flows into this in turn.
