The 18-hole course of the Rheintal e. V. was built between 1957 and 1958 on a former military training area of the former Wehrmacht. When the course was ceremoniously handed over to its destination on August 1st, 1958, the Americans christened it “Golf-Club Heidelberg”, while German golfers called it “Golf-Club Rheintal” (the club was founded in 1971) is. On September 30, 2013, after the Americans had left Heidelberg, the golf course was handed back to the two owners, the community of Oftersheim and the Landesforst. The golf course has now been leased.
