The Sandhausen dune "Pflege Schönau-Galgenbuckel" is one of the two large inland dune areas around Sandhausen. They are characterized by flora and fauna that are rare in Germany and that are specially adapted to heat, water shortages and nutrient deficiencies. Such plants and animals are usually found in the steppes of Eastern Europe or in the Mediterranean area.
