A monument to Remy 'Mony' Van Lierde (1915-1990), a colonel in the Belgian Air Force. He fought in the air battles of the Battle of Britain during World War II. In his dogfights he downed 7 German planes and 37 flying bombs and with his fighter-bomber he damaged 6 boats, 9 locomotives and 250 vehicles. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross.Returning to the Belgian Air Force in 1946, Van Lierde was promoted to Major. In 2011 this memorial monument was erected for him in Overboelare.
