It is precisely these mute contemporary witnesses along the way that evoke thoughts of how in earlier times attention was not focused on the overwhelming beauty of this region, but how hard work shaped life. Today the ruins are a romantic side note and enrich the visual experience of a hike

The walls are the last remains of the Lochmühle:
"The Lochmühle once stood where the Balgenbächle joins the Gauchach south of Döggingen. The Lochmühle, built in the 17th century, was twice destroyed by flooding in the 19th century and then finally abandoned in 1896. To commemorate the fate of the Lochmühle a chapel was built (Lochmühlenkapelle). Nothing remains of the Lochmühle itself today, apart from a few moss-covered remains of the wall." (Source: alemannische-seiten.de/deutschland/huefingen_lochmuehle-gauchachschlucht.php).
A few meters further up a small path you come to the chapel.
