The project
Our goal is the renovation and maintenance of the monument Tonndorf Castle and the associated - in many parts nature protected - open spaces for the construction of a residential, working and living community for about 60 people (adults and children). The main focus here is on the equal promotion of cultural and nature conservation and thus on the sustainable revival of a regionally important and high-radiation part of the grown cultural landscape of Thuringia. Accordingly, parts of the facility should be made accessible and usable for the general public, thus reclaiming the castle for public awareness.

Cycling

The history of Tonndorf Castle goes back to medieval times. In addition to the so-called younger manor's castle, an early medieval complex with remains of fortifications has been recognized in the area of the castle. Historians assume that the castle, which was expanded into a palace at the time of the Renaissance, was built in the time of Henry I during the armistice with Hungary (924-933) to protect the old trade route that led from Erfurt to Bohemia.
