The Eger should soon unfold its true ecological potential again near Hohenberg. Here the water lies flat in the bed of the Mühlkanal - and therefore fish cannot find their way upstream. Therefore, the Eger should soon form a new loop near Hohenberg and the water will then dig its own way. Old fortifications are being removed along the banks and new trees are being planted, giving the watercourse more shade – which certain species of fish need.

With the immigration of the Slavs into the area populated by Teutons, the name of the water was taken over from them. It is borrowed from West Slavonic and changed into an eare spoken in Old Czech through sound shifting. This name had its own Czech language development and has remained constant in today's phonetic form since the 13th century. Its roots, like the German name, go back to the Indo-European era.
