The Janov dam is located at the confluence of the Loupnice (11.5 km long) and Kliny rivers in the Hammertal below Krizstky (Way of the Cross). The dam was built between 1910 and 1914 to improve the drinking water supply for the town of Most.

The Janov dam is beautifully situated in the narrow valley of the Loupnice. The "Kgl. Stadt Brix in Böhmen" had it built in 1912/13 to ensure the drinking water supply of its then 19,000 inhabitants. The company "Ausbau von Talsperre Berndt, Schwarzer and Wurm" from Brüx/Most had built it using the most modern technology at the time; at 53m it became the highest dam in Austria-Hungary.
