Auberville

Recently popular small town: during the first decade of the 21st century the town doubled its population. There is the Notre-Dame church, from the 12th century, with a bell tower. The toponym is attested in the form Osbertivilla in 1082. It is composed of a Germanic anthroponym Osbert, more precisely Anglo-Saxon Osberht or Scandinavian Osbern, frequent personal name in ducal Normandy cf. Osbern de Crépon, and Old French vile (from the Latin villa), in its original meaning of “rural domain”.

The village of Auberville is nestled on the heights to the east of the seaside resort of Houlgate. Built at an altitude of 130 m on the Côte Fleurie, the town has remarkable viewpoints which dominate the cliffs of the Vaches Noires and the Channel. Its privileged setting and its geographical location, just 3 km from the beaches and shops, make it an ideal vacation spot.
