Hiking

A natural terrain spur was divided into the Burgberg and the Kirchberg by double excavation. The end of the terrain spur, i.e. today's castle hill, was artificially raised to a 10 meter high main hill. Today's Kirchberg served as the outer bailey, on whose terrain the Gothic collegiate church of St. Gangolf was built in the 15th century after previous buildings.

Beautiful park on one of the rare hills in the flat landscape of the Lower Rhine with castle ruins and the church of St. Gangolf. This is where the origin of the city of Heinsberg lies. The Lords of Heinsberg built their aristocratic residence here in the Middle Ages and a settlement developed under the protection of the castle.
